The Bloom Organization announces its client, Arizona Digestive Institute, LLC, and an associated anesthesia practice have been acquired by United Surgical Partners International (USPI). USPI purchased a majority interest in Arizona Digestive Institute and Professional Anesthesia Services, PLLC, the associated anesthesia medical practice, in a transaction that closed in August 2017. Arizona Digestive Institute, located in Tucson, Ariz., opened in 2003. At the time of the acquisition, the Medicare-certified, single-specialty gastroenterology (GI) ambulatory surgery center (ASC) had six physician owners and eight physician utilizers. They perform more than 11,000 cases annually in one operating room and three procedure rooms. Professional Anesthesia Services, also located in Tucson, Ariz., is Arizona Digestive Institute’s exclusive anesthesia provider. USPI, headquartered in Addison, Texas, is national developer and operator of ASCs and surgical hospitals. In mid-2015, USPI and Tenet Healthcare Corp. entered into a joint venture. The combined network now includes about 20 imaging centers, 265 short-stay surgical facilities, 50 health systems and 4,000 physicians. “The people of Tucson know they can count on the physicians and anesthesia providers at Arizona Digestive Institute to deliver the safest, highest quality care — case after case,” Robert Goettling, Principal at The Bloom Organization. “This is apparent in the steady growth of the ASC over the past 14 years. The investment by USPI, one of the ASC industry’s leading management and development companies, in Arizona Digestive Institute and Professional Anesthesia Services will help these providers continue to expand and deliver exceptional GI and endoscopy services to even more of the patient population.”
