Mississippi Valley Surgery Center Completes Partnership Restructuring

November 2026 — The Bloom Organization (“Bloom”), a preeminent middle- market investment bank focused exclusively on founder-led and physician-owned businesses across the healthcare services and business services sectors, is pleased to announce that it has successfully advised Mississippi Valley Surgery Center (“MVSC”), one of the largest multispecialty ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) in the country, on the restructuring of its health system partnership.

MVSC is a dual-site ASC located in Davenport, Iowa, with one location providing GI services and the other operating as a seven OR multispecialty ASC. As one of the first ASCs in the country to perform outpatient total joint replacements, MVSC remains focused on delivering innovative surgical solutions and ensuring high-quality access to care for patients and physicians. To support its continued success, MVSC has transitioned away from its former health system and ASC management company and established a new partnership with MercyOne, a progressive health system leader in Iowa and part of Trinity Health, a nationwide health system.

“In today’s fast changing ASC landscape, ASCs must stay focused on the future and changing market conditions to remain relevant with both their physician partners and ultimately the local market,” commented Robert Goettling, head of Bloom’s ASC advisory team. “More and more of our time today is being spent with ASCs like MVSC looking for a path toward the future, which often means restructuring ownership and partnerships to create long-term value.”

“Because our ASCs are regional leaders in outpatient care, performing almost 10,000 procedures per year, we can’t be surprised or have to react defensively whenever the local physician and health system environments change,” said Michael Patterson, CEO of MVSC. “ASCs like ours must lead the evolution of change, which means leading the charge on ownership restructuring and creative partnership opportunities. Being aware of market dynamics and shifting partnership priorities are a key element of any ASC’s success. Furthermore, being able to adapt to those changes and aggressively seek new opportunities will continue to drive our success.”

The Bloom Organization was engaged by all parties to help develop a strategic plan for the ASC and facilitate the necessary transactions. The engagement was led by Mr. Goettling.
